Seaming crochet pieces together
I'm just starting crochet today. I bought this kit, the knitting one in the same series is how I got started with knitting so I figured it would be a good place to start with crochet too. It's all fine and good, except for one thing that I also remember from the knitting book and at the time didn't know any better -- it recommends whip stitch for seaming things together. Uggh. I used whip stitch on my first few knit projects because I didn't know any better, later on finding out that there's MUCH better ways to do it. The same must be true in crochet.

So how do you seam in crochet?

I think it depends on the project you're working on. If you want a raised seam, you can take the two sides and just do a single crochet along the edge of them. If you want something more decorative, to say put squares together in a pretty manner, you could try this.. I've found that it's pretty project specific. Have you discovered crochet pattern central yet? I practically live on KH and CPC...

When seaming crochet items, whip stitch actually looks nice... here is a video of seaming two squares together with whip stitch and then slip stitches. http://youtube.com/watch?v=DtxVuyc4U2I Hope this will help you!

What's the best way to seam crochet for a sweater, so as not to create a visble seam line on the outside and not create a bulky raised seam on the inside?

You could put then right sides facing each other and do slip stitches across the edge... ?
