Good Sock Yarn
Okay, I am a fairly new knitter and I want to knit some socks.
I've knitted a couple pair, following Silver's Instructions and they came out pretty good. But I need to know:
What is the BEST yarn for socks? I would really like a soft, kinda stretchy, yarn for these.

THANK YOU
sue

PS: Those little smiley guys are a HOOT! I love them all!

Oh gosh...there are so many! You should try doing a search on this forum.

I just made a pair using Lorna's Laces, and they are just wonderful.

I have made a few pairs using Regia. And I have some Opal in the stash that I have to use ...

This wool yarn contains 100% Merino wool.

Would this be good for socks?

Thanks!

as long as it is "superwash" otherwise you have to hand wash them. I'm really loving Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock yarn.

My FAVORITE sock yarn is Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock Lightweight. It is by far the softest stretchiest stuff I've used, and the colors are gorgeous. It's hard to come by because they're a small company and aren't widely distributed.
Other Faves: Koigu, Claudia, Louet Gems, Lorna's Shepherd Sock, and Fleece Artist Nova socks or basic merino socks. Little Knits is having sale on the Fleece Artist right now, so check it out. Yummmmm.....

I'm still in the process of making some with this stuff called trekking. The color is pretty but it's been hard to work with- very splitty. I started some others with cascade stripes and it's been so much easier to knit with.

I agree. I just bought the Socks that Rock and they are really great. The yarn is not very thin, almost like a semi sport wt. The colors are terrific and the price is right in range with what other good sock yarn costs.

I really like knitting with Lorna's Laces. Plus there are so many wonderful colors to pick from. http://www.theloopyewe.com/browse/ya...shepherd-sock/
