Old Yarn

I thought wool yarn is supposed to last a long long time! I recently received a large donation of all wool yarn that was kept for a long time in plastic bags. I've discovered that it has some small worms or moths, I'm not sure what they are. I put the whole lot in the garage for now. I don't know whether to discard it or try to rid if of the worms. Any advice is appreciated.

I answered this in your other post, but I wanted to reiterate.

I would get rid of it. It seems a shame to waste, but the larvae probably have eaten the yarn itself, and you don't know how many eggs are just waiting to hatch. You don't want them to get into your yarn.

I'm sure there are ways to get rid of them--freezing may be one way, but I don't think I'd take the chance.

Yup, throw it away. The moths and larvae have already eaten the yarn, and I don't think you would want to knit with wormy yarn.

Sorry about that, though, it's a shame to have to get rid of it.
