When you knit in the round, you're always knitting on the right side.
When you knit on straights, you work one row of the right side and one of the wrong side.
To change a pattern to flat, you'll need to reverse the wrong-side stitches from knit to purl and vice versa, and you'll have to reverse the order in which you knit them.
Also add a stitch at each end for seaming.
"Trust the pattern!"

Hop aboard while we follow the cloud-covered van of knitting harmony, man!! Woooo!! --Hedgehog
