Scrubbies

Just wondering if anyne has made kitchen scrubbies. I was given on as a thank you and it's great.

They would be about the extent of my crochet skills....

But you have to start somewhere.....right?

I don't know about a crochet pattern for scrubbies (although I think I might remember seeing one somewhere), I did find one for knitting though. Here ya go: The Trouble With Tribbles.

Somewhere, I've got one that you knit with straight needles and close when done. I'll try my best to locate it for you unless you prefer the crocheted ones. Mary

I just made one this past week, and listed the pattern on Ravelry. It's in Japanese, but here are the basics:

You chain 19 (18 across and 1 for the first sc), and sc 18 back and forth for 20 rows. On the odd rows (except row 1), increase the first sc and decrease the last sc. On the even rows, decrease the first sc and increase the last sc. Don't forget to ch 1 at the beginning of each row.

This particular pattern uses 2 colors, but I used one color in an ombre colorway. If you want the 2 color stripes, change color at the end of each even row. The pattern also instructs you to sc in the back loop only, so you get nice little ribs.

After the 20th row you slip stitch the top and bottom together. Finally, you run your yarn through each side and draw it in the center tightly. You can make a hanging loop with a ch 12 (I left this part off on mine).

OK, I was just trying out a hat pattern that looked exactly like the knitted tribble. I don't have it in front of me (I'm out of town on DH's computer) but I remember that you * did 2sc in the first st of the row and then sc 2 sts tog at the end. The next row, you sc 2 sts tog at the beginning and did 2c in the last st*. Does that make sense? It made a shape just like the knitted one. Gosh, I'm reading this back and even I can't tell what the heck I'm saying. HA!

Anyhow, I'll post the pattern link when I get home. In the meantime, I like the knitted pattern as well. Would you perhaps add some kind of "scrubby type" fiber to the cotton as well?

You know, my DH works for a computer software co and he showed me this online place that actually translated other sites into English. It was so cool. I'll have to ask him what that was. He was looking at some motorcyle parts online and it was in another language. He went to the translator site, typed in the motorcyle parts site and it went to the site, where everything was now in English. Fascinating!

Mariblue, thank you! for the tribble pattern. I'm a crocheter learning to knit and by working this pattern and using the CD from this website, I just learned ssk and k1b&f this morning. So even though I still have a long way to go, at the moment I'm feeling pretty confident in my knitting skills....
