Beaded knitting.

After ages of hunting for a suitable pattern for a scarf, I've stumbled upon this lovely little number: http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting...ace/bamboo.htm.

Since I'm using (gorgeous 100% merino wool) lace weight yarn on size 10 needles, I'm assuming that the pattern is going to be bigger than roughly the three inches wide of the sample shown.

My question is this: Since I want to add delicate seed beads for a daintier look, where would I add them? At first I thought on the yarnovers in the middle, because that would be a dewey effect...but then I realized that a 10-foot scarf with beads all in the middle would sag.

Next I thought maybe the outermost tips of the pattern--so on the row 10s.

Any thoughts? I've never done beading or lacework before, but this is a gift for a friend's mom who's going through chemo for uterine cancer, and I want it to be soft and beautiful and delicate. Thanks!

Oh and as I look at your pattern again, I don't think beads in the center yarn overs would make the scarf too heavy -- those litte beads are pretty light, even a lot of them. I'd balance it out with some beads in the YOs on the edges as well (maybe alternate sides?)

This is just a thought, but your skin goes through a bit of a change during cancer treatments and can get very sensitive. Your friend may find it hard to wear beads against the skin they can feel a bit scratchy. All I wanted was something soft and warm because you can get so cold.

If you still want to make it I would recommend placing beads before the yarn over, it won't sag so much then. Good luck.

Joann's has a yarn called Fever and it has seed beads already on the yarn. It is really soft and cuddly (the Sensations line) but I couldn't find it in their website. I found this though: http://www.humanplumage.blogspot.com/
