What is the softest warmest yarn?

Im making a scarf for my grandma who lives in northern Utah and I want it to be warm enough that she can go outside to feed the chickens during a snowstorm or whatever but I also want it to be soft. Im allergic to wool, so I would prefer not to work with it, but if its going to be the warmest and the softest, I could probably manage a few days with itchy hands.

I am sorry that you are allergic to wool, I was going to say malabrigo is the best choice. I just knit my DH a basic 2x2 ribbed scarf in chunky malabrigo, and I think it might be the warmest thing I have ever knit
On the acrylic side, I have made a scarf out of caron's simply soft, I just double stranded with 2 different colors and knit in basic garter stitch. It came out nice and thick, and was easy and fast.

Alpaca is warm and soft! Silk is warm, but not in the yummy thick fun way alpaca is.

I asked almost the exact same question not long ago. To me the warmest and softest has to be qiviut, but its also the most expensive! Cashmere is also very warm and if blended with another warm fibre can be a lot less expensive. I jst bought some jaeger chamonix, which is chunky, angora(very fine therefore very warm), merino and nylon. That to me ticked all the boxes.
I also just finished a cardi using 2 strands together of 80% alpaca 20% silk, and it came out incredibly thick and super warm and soft too!
There are a lot of choices out there no matter what your budget.
