I have a brioche stitch question
I took a class at Stitches East last weekend on learning the brioche stitch. I understand the basic stitch but do not understand completely how to increase in brioche. I was having trouble in the class and did not understand it. I believe that I'm supposed to knit the next stitch along with the yarnover, then in that same stitch I'm supposed to yarnover and knit again in the same stitch. It does not look right plus on the next row there does not seem to be enough stitches to go back to the basic brioche!!! I'm frustrated. Can anyone help me?

not a question that can be readily answered in this forum

there are some books that have good info on brioche stitch (there was a good article last year in..(some knitting magazine--but i can't remember which..maybe somebody else will)

The K1b (basic brioche) can be knit
in stocking knit (sort of)
in seed (sort of)
in ribbing (single strand/single color or 2 strands/2 colors)
(in other patterns)

it can be striped (see Knitters magazine, summer 2005)
it can be work flat, or worked in round (see Weekend Knitting)

Increasing and decreasing are complex (Big Book of Knitting, Katerina Buss covers some details) i don't know if this is the BEST reference, or just a good one--

Learning/working with K1b stitch is almost like learning to knit all over again!
most patterns and uses for this stitch are pretty simple--because most just don't know enough about the stitch..
(you can spend the next few years swatch, knitting small object (large swatches) and still not learn all there is to know.)

I know how to do the stitch (and can usually identify how its being used) but i am no expert.
hats and scarves and simple mittens.. that is the limit of my knowledge.

Thanks very much to everyone who responded.

I now know what I was doing wrong and feel much more confident that I can move forward and accomplish the various brioche techniques! I'm happy!
