Question about Baby Sweater, dividing yarn?
This will no doubt seem like a dumb question, but here goes: My daughters and I are teaching ourselves to knit, using the book Knitting in Plain English. We're making the "dumb baby sweater". Everything was progressing famously, our knitting even looks like something, and then I came to the part of the instructions that read: "Work across the left sleeve...Drop the ball of yarn you have been using. Do not cut it off; just leave it hanging there. Add new yarn and work across the back." Okay, so WHAT "new yarn"? The instructions said "one skein", and that is what I've been using. Was I supposed to divide the skein into two before I started? Would it work to drop the yarn I've been using, pull a bunch more out of the skein, cut it, roll that bit up, and then continue with what's left? Is there some heads up in the pattern (or in most knitting patterns) that I missed? Am I the first one to have gotten into this little pickle?
