Well, once again, thank you everyone for your help.
I just had to tell what an idiot I am, though. I knitted up one in a lovely green merino with one black stripe, also merino, for my size 1 dpns. Then I went to felt it. Oddly enough, the black stripe felted and the green didn't. Strange... they were both Paton's Classic Merino, weren't they?
Suddenly my brain came up with an image of the last two hats I finished, sitting on my bed... the last of my green Patons CM and most of my black combined in Graham's hat - and the first of two skeins of superwash merino that my mom bought for me to make myself a hat. Sure enough, when I pulled out the yarns, the green was not PAtons.
At least I was hand felting, I would have been VERY upset if I had paid to use the washing machine and it didn't felt...
