Figure 8 cast on???

I want to try 2 socks at the same time, toe up, on 1 circular needle. I have plenty of sock experience but my intructions say to use a figure 8 cast on. I have never heard of this before and can't find it in my knitting book or online...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Silver's tutorial - http://www.cometosilver.com/socks/2mlsocks_start.htm - has a good demonstration of the figure 8. (Personally, I found the Turkish cast-on easier than the figure 8 -- I have no idea why, since it's fairly similar. *shrug*)

Thanks! I like the looks of the turkish cast on better. I am too tired to start tonite, but maybe will give it a shot in the morning.

I guess I cans split my yarn tonight...

I have never done a short row heel either but that looks easy enough.

I could keep knitting socks one at a time, but I really like the striping to be identical and hate waiting to finish that second sock.
