How do you increase in rib pattern
I am working on a basic pullover sweater that is done entirely in rib pattern. The pattern for the sleeve, for example, calls for an increase at each end of row every six rows, sixteen times. How do I increase and stay in the K2R2 pattern? I am familiar with most increases, I just don't quite understand how to make the increases in pattern. Links to any on-line instructions would also be great.

Just do the increases, and the next row incorporate the new sts into the 2x2 pattern. Your next row might look something like this (from the rs)

v--vv--vv--vv-
.--vv--vv--vv

And they'll be hidden in the seam so not as noticeable after you have the sweater put together.

Thank you for such a quick reply - if I am increasing one stitch in from both sides, do I just force the pattern off to each side on the next row? Also, do I always use a knit stitch to increase or do I use a purl if my next to the end stitch is a purl, for example?

You can inc one st in, and you just incorporate the extra sts into the pattern. Use whichever inc you like. Doing the inc on the end st would make it easier to hide something that might look a little off though.
