Shrug

Ok I have been given two 50gr balls of Baby Lash yarn and a dress in size seven and asked to knit a shrug. i have never seen the girl it is for. All I have for sizing is the dress. I beleive she wants a short sleeve/3/4 length shrug. Any pattern suggestions would be great. I made a shrug formy fourteen yr old neice in the spring and the woman saw it and would like me to make one for this little girl.Of course being the nice person I am said sure. Now I am unsure how I should go about it. I was thinking basically making a long rectangle and sewing up part of it for arms?

Hi there...do some research (maybe online) but a friend of mine "whipped up" this awesome shrug for me from "Knit It"mag April 2006. The shrug is on the cover..

This is a free pattern called "Brenda's Shrug". I've made several for myself and others, and have found it to be an easy to read and easy to execute pattern. I've never made a 3/4-sleeve version, but think it would be possible to alter it for that, and for size as well. The pattern is worked flat, with the sleeves seamed. If you have experience working sleeves in the round, you may work the sleeves that way to avoid seaming.

I saw an episode of Knitty Gritty where they made a basic shrug just as you described: a long rectangle with seams sewn for the arms. It looked really cute.

Some other options. With only 2 x 50g balls to work with it limits the choices a bit.
