Modifying a pattern for a different fit
Hello all,

My father has requested that I make him a pullover vest and I've said yes. Now, the pattern I found is fine but there's only one problem...my dad has a belly.

How do I go about figuring out how to make the front more roomy? I've never modified a pattern like this so I'm not sure if I just increase more than the pattern says and if I do, how do I know where?

You'll need to incorporate short rows. If you can get your hands on 'Sweater Design in Plain English' by Righetti she has specific instructions on how to do just exactly this (modifying for belly, as well as dowager's hump, large bust, etc).

If you've not purch it already, check for used copies. I bought mine online for a fraction of the orig price.
