Tips? First Pair of Circular Needles

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a brand name or type of needle that they have preferred for circular knitting? I would like to purchase some needles but am unsure about what kind is best: wood/metal, plastic/metal cables, screw on/replacable cables? All opinions welcome and thanks bunches!

I have a variety of types of circular and find them all ok. If you have a particular type of straight needle you like I would try getting the same material in a circular to start. I just got my first bamboo and am still getting used to the different feel and it has slightly slowed me down. I haven't totally decided if I like them. They are size 13 so I would really have to try them in a much smaller size to say for sure.

I have mostly Boye and Susan Bates fixed needles and they're fine. Boye's have sharper tips, so they're good for working lace or patterns where you do a lot of k2tog, and for yarn that may be splitty. I have a couple pair of cheapie bamboo needles that are okay, I don't use really slippery yarn enough to buy more of them.

I have to agree, use the type of needle material you're most comfortable with. I prefer metallic in both straight at circs, but I like my dpns to be bamboo. I haven't tried the interchangeable ones, but some people swear by them. I suggest buying or borrowing something to play around with. Trial and error is going to be the best way.
