i need help for this instruction...
mini candy stocking instructions:

Cast on 30sts in main color.
K 6 rows.
Row 7, K 14, K2 tog, turn, slip 1, K4,
K2 tog and turn.
Cont until 17 sts remain.

K 20 rows in garter st in main color.
Join in white wool and K 6 rows.

Cast off

what does it mean by 'cont until 17 sts remain'?

Continue (as in continue working this way) until only 17 stitches remain in each row.

K2tog is a decrease--each time you do this your entire row gets shorter by one stitch. So as you work your piece should gradually taper. Just keep track of how many stitches are in the row you are working on. (Starting with 30 sts and decreasing once each row it should take 13 rows.)

I goofed!
So I'm bumping this message up to the top so someone else can perhaps help Jaijayjaye with this puzzle. I THOUGHT the problem was just a new knitter confused by k2tog--but if I'd read a little closer I'd seen the real problem (in this color).

I'm afraid it might be that the instructions are screwed up and we can't help here, but please have a look.

I read your first answer and it's correct. By doing short rows with decs then number of sts decreases. Just follow the instruction for row 7 (which is actually 2 rows) until there's a total of 17 sts on the needle.
