Combined knitter needs help with "My so called scarf"

I have been knitting combined for 40 years and at this point in my life I don't see changing that.

With that said, I decided to make a smidge or pidge, whatever it is being called these days, using my so called scarf pattern. I have no problem with the knit row but I cannot get the purl rows to work. This is the first pattern I could not figure out how to convert.

Any tips would be welcome. I already bought the yarn and thought this would be a great Christmas gift for one of my friends.
