Is there a way to get rid of the little color stripe on the WS of a scarf?

Im making my sister a skinny scarf and both sides are going to be seen. This means I dont want the little color stripe things on the other side that happen when I color change. Like when the color your changing to ends up leaving a tiny stripe on the back of the color your changing the color from. Heres an example:

ANy suggestions or will I just have to deal with it?

You could try knitting it in the round, and make one long tube... using DPNS or a 16inch circ. This way the entire thing will be in stockinette and the WS will be inside it. It will be a more knitting because you will need more stitches to make the tube, but it will be easier if it's just a knit scarf, you won't have to purl...

It won't really be very skinny then...

you could also do it in ribbing, and this way both sides will be identical...

That is the nature of the beast so to speak. As far as I know the only way to not have it show at all is to knit in the round which makes a scarf that is double thickness.

I dont think I have enough time to knit it in the round. Plus, its supposed to be able to be used as a scarf, in her hair, and as a belt. So it would be too thick. I guess I'll just deal with it.

Hold the phone! I just looked at the hip house scarf pattern in Charmed Knits (which Im basing her scarf off of) And it says:

"Cut the yarn at each color change for both stripe sequences as both sides of the scarf will be visible. This makes for more ends to weave in but a much neater looking scarf."

What does that mean? I cant do a Russian Join like I normally do? I hate weaving in ends. They always pop out. But this wont make the stripey things go away will it?

No it won't. They are probably saying that cutting the wool makes a neater look than carrying up the edge does.

You could do Scarf in k1, p1, ribbing. It makes the stripe part, although still there, much less obvious, when the purl sts recede with the 'unstretch'.

True, and 1x1 ribbing looks like stockinette when it's not stretched.
