Blocking an acrylic yarn...

What's the best way to block an acrylic yarn?

I think I may have "oopsed" big style... I might have put the iron a bit too heavy (like - at all...) on the bottom of the scarf I'm knitting (falling water lace scarf)... and it's gone a bit flat...



So....... what's going to be the best way to block this thing once I've done it?

You never want to apply an iron directly to acrylic. Technically acrylic doesn't block but you can try steaming it (hold iron over knitted item) with knit fabric covered with pressing cloth or damp towels. I've had luck with that method as well as pinning afghan squares to blocking board, misting heavily and letting dry thoroughly.

Wash it according to the washing instructions on the yarn label. I think that should help to "revive" it.

Hi Cam and Knitgal... I really did get the "sinking" feeling as I was doing it... However, I didn't let the iron completely rest on the yarn, and there was a damp tea towl between yarn and iron!

It will get washed once it's done also, and then I'll see what it turns out like!

Just washing an acrylic knit item evens out the stitches, I've never had to make it the `correct size'.
