Knitter's Mag - Fall 2007; Judy Anderson's "Frosting"
For anybody with the Fall 2007 issue of Knitter's Magazine, I am trying to knit the pattern "Frosting" by Judy Anderson which starts on page 50.

The HUGE problem I am having is with the repeating late/cable pattern. Fortunately for me, I haven't cast on the entire piece, but am trying to just knit the recurring pattern first to make sure I've got it right and its not working. As an 18-stitch repeat, here are the first three rows (which for me, end up being 20 stitches):

1. P, P, YO, K, P, P, K, K, K2tog, P, P, SSK, K, K, P, P, K, YO
2. P, P, K, K, P, P, K, K, K, P, P, K, K, K, P, P, K, K
3. P, P, K, YO, K, P, P, K, K2tog, P, P, SSK, K, P, P, K, YO, K

I won't even go on with the rest of the patter as I have not been able to get past these three rows. For some reason, that very first row comes out as 20 stitches for me and I can't figure out why as the second row IS 18 stitches. Once I get the recurring pattern working correctly on a swatch, I'll move forward with the whole sweater but not until then...

Just wondering, but perhaps you're wrapping the YO's twice? That's the only place I can see for the extra stitches being introduced.

whey you're counting your YO - that is just 1 stitch, don't count it as 3/4.

Maybe you should cast on 18 stitches, then work stockinette for 4 rows. Then start your pattern row 1. It should work out then.

When you do a YO, it's just a wrap around a needle, not a wrap and k1. It doesn't use a stitch and you end up with only one stitch.

I finally figured it out... Indeed, I was counting the YOs AS actual stitches, not as an instruction (hence coming up with 20 stitches).

It only took a week!
