You have to go in multiples of 4, Maria. If you have a 2x2 rib (which is four stitches), you should have cast on 32 stitches instead of 34. That will bring you to a p2 at the end of your row. Good luck!

Patterns can be wrong. I know that if you are doing multiples of 4, automatically you do not cast on 34, you cast on 32. As soon as I read your post, I knew what was wrong. I hope this helped you. Good luck with your mittens.

You can also go up to 36 sts to get the right number if you are worrie about making the cuff too small (I know 2 sts more or less ought not affect size that much, but thought it was worth mentioning).

I'm assuming this is made "in the round" so doing multiples of 2 would make your ribs uneven if not also in multiples of 4. What happens after your ribbing? You may find that there was an error and that the first row after the ribbing has a different stitch count. I've found that several times.
