saw hat on TV last night
Does anyone watch "the Ghostwhisperer"? Anyway last night the main character, Melinda, was wearing a knit hat that I just loved. It looked just like a ribbed hat, but the edge was scalloped, did anyone else see this? I would love to knit a hat like this.

here is a link to a picture of the hat, you have to scroll all the way to the right, the hat is on the girl all the way on the right...

That's a chevron stitch. Looks like it starts out with an inch of ribbing, then maybe has an inch of straight knitting, (it could be the st pattern too) then some garter stitch, and goes into the chevron pattern with double increases and double decrease. The raised rib is the dec - slip 2, knit 1, psso. The holey part is the inc - k1, yo, k1 in the same st. Cute idea.

Ahhh well it helps to know the basic chevron st. It's something like, k2tog, kX (any number from 3-7), inc, inc, kX, ssk - repeat. For this one in the round with double incs and decs instead of 2 decs and incs, I think you'd start with the knit sts - kX, slip 2, k1 pass sl st over, kX, k1, yo, k1, repeat.

It looks like the same design as this one (only they didn't use different colors)

This does look like it! Too bad I don't understand the pattern! Maybe some of my knitting friends here at work could decipher it for me. Thank you so much

I just posted to Ravelry about that hat. I noticed it too. It is a chevron pattern, with different colours. I wondered if she had her hair stuffed up into it, as it seemed very tall! Great hat. I loved the edges. samm

Here's another almost like it pattern, which is like the Drops pattern too - http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patt...yeasterhat.htm The only changes you would make are at the incs and dec. Instead of yo, k1, yo, you would do k1, yo, k1 into one st. And where the decs are skp/k2tog, you would slip 2, k1, psso.
