I desperately need sweater help!
I have a sweater I have been knitting since May. The actual sweater went fantastically. I felt really proud of myself.
Until.... I got to the neck. It is a turtleneck that you add after all the other pieces are knitted.
I need help. I have tried 17 different ways to make this stupid neck work, and now the neck yarn is starting to get funky from so many ripping outs. I NEED HELP
Here is a pic of the front and back sewn together at the shoulder parts. The front and back match perfectly, or they did until MR FROG came to town. The front has the stitch holder on it, and there are 12 stitches on it.

so now, to quote from the book, Cables Untangled: " with ws facing pick up and knit 46 sts along neckline, including 12 sts on front neck holder."
There is not enough room on the front for 46 sts to be picked up, and the pattern doesn't say only the front, so I thought, "they mean both front and back neckline." hmm..... no mention of if I do that I have to switch to circular needles.
NO, no errata available. First time I have been so desperate to think that I am not so dense that I have searched for errata. And this is supposed to be the easist darn sweater in the stupid book. AND I have worked on this for 6 months.
Please have pity and try to help!

I would take that to mean 46 sts for the complete neckband, not just front. I'm assuming its a childs sweater, 46 st for adult is not enough.
If you don't have a circular, you can do the neckband on 2 straight needles but you would need to undo one of the shoulder seams first. knit neckband flat, then seam the neckband and remaining shoulder seam later. (this might be what the pattern intented). In that case personally, I would pick up the sts from front, not with wrong side facing.

I agree. Pick up with the right side facing or you're going to have a seam on the outside of the sweater.

It's not a childs sweater, it's an adult.
You guys are brilliant. I never thought to knit the whole neckband straight across.

Unless your gauge is 2 sts/inch, 46 stitches won't be enough. You may need to do 46 plus the 12 - that would just barely be large enough.

Yep, knitting across. The instructions I have (page 38 of my copy) have you sew left shoulder seam, pick up those 46 neck stitches, knit the neck, then "sew right shoulder seam, including side of neckband."
