Fabric-Tac: anybody used it?

I picked up this fabric adhesive at Joann's yesterday. I didn't notice the price until the lady scanned it: $7 for 4 oz!
Anyway, I got it to attach a felted tab (which will house a magnetic snap) to the inside of a felted purse.
I just wonder if it is strong enough...
I guess I could felt a test piece...

Hi! I have used it to tack quilts.. I don't think it is strong enough for a snap. If I am thinking of the right product it is only for a temporary hold. Good luck with it.

No, this says it is a permanent adhesive.
I think that I will knit and felt a test swatch before I use it.

I use it quite alot in other craft work, never used it for the snap. It IS supposed to be very strong but not sure of it's ability to hold something metal to fabric. Let me know how it works! Mary

I think that I will use it and then reinforce it by stitching around the tab. The purse was knitted with two strands of wool throughout so I can stitch without going all the way through to the outside of the purse.

Don'tcha wish they made the magnetic snaps sew on? I've been making a little knitted disk, felting it, to attach the snap to and then handstitching it to the bag but it sticks out so much. The only alternative I've found is using a lightweight fabric to make a yo yo, attach the snap and sew to the inside of the bag. I guess I need to just start lining the bags to make that toothed-snap, happy, huh? Mary

Yes, but putting in a lining would mean that I would have to learn how to sew and buy a sewing machine. I can barely keep up financing my yarn habit as it is.

OH! But you have the fabri-tac!!! You should be able to use it to make your seams! Bags are just rectangular pieces made into shapes! The gusset or bottom/sides is formed by mitering the bottom sides. Measure your bag top around to top and add a hem allowance of 3/4", measure the width of the bag flat and add a 1/2" seam allowance. Fold the rectangle in half and tac the side seams. Pinch the bottom sides so the seam is in the middle and it forms a triangle, then tac across that triangle the width of your desired gusset/bottom. Stick it inside the felted bag, turn down the hem allowance, tac the lining to the bag and WAH LAA!!! I don't think you'll have to become a "full blown" seamstress at all. Remember, the lining can't really be seen anyway. OOPS!! Don't forget to put your magnetic snap on before tacking to the bag. Oh geesh, here I am "instructing" you... sorry... Mary

Maybe I'll try it with the next bag. A lined bag would be nice...
Next time I drive to town, I'll take a look at fabrics.

Seriously, try it with some lightweight knit first... the inside of the bag is smaller than the outside and you'll need to ease it in. The knit is more forgiving. Or cut a woven fabric on the bias to give it some stretch...
