Confused about Cable Brioche Scarf St's

I have started this scarf 3 times. It doesn't look like the same pattern stitches as on here. I'm wondering about the Slip all st's purlwise w/ yarn it front. I have the yarn in front before I slip a stitch. Then after I slip I yo. I am getting a lot of stitches almost on top of each other. I need help.I'm not understanding how to do this

By slipping with the yarn in front, if you knit the stitch after that, it will make the YO, no need to do it again.

When you do the k2tog on the next row, the yo and the knit are the ones you work together. The fact that they're on top of each other makes it easier.
