Aran vs. worsted?

I know Aran and worsted are both the same size, but what is the differece between them?

Hmm, it's always been my understanding that aran is slightly thicker than worsted.

I thought they were the same. But this is just something that I assumed, not something I know or read, so maybe others will answer your questions...and mine. I'd like to know too.

Aran is more of a heavy worsted; it's slight thicker, getting a stitch or two less per 4" than worsted. They're usually fairly interchangeable in patterns though - just watch the gauge if it's a sweater.

Great - I'm going to make a scarf, so I should be able to use worsted instead of aran, like the pattern calls for.
