Rose of England - background stitch

Stuck without my reference - and this is bugging me...

In the petals of the Rose of England (Kinzel) there is a background where at least one row is alternating m3, p3tog stitches.

I can't remember if it is simply

1) m3, p3tog, m3, p3tog etc

2) knit all

3) p3tog, m3, p3tog, etc

4) knit

or if it was more complicated then that.....
