You are, in essence, doing the same thing as if you knitted a complete row. Think about it this way - when you've finished knitting all of the stitches off your left needle, you switch your needles around so you can start the next row. Before you work that very first stitch the working yarn is on the left needle. So just pretend that you knitted all the stitches (even though there will be some left on the needle) and go from there.
