Sock ROCK (well I don't know)

I am a new knitter that has never done socks.
I would like to know if there are any simple sock patterns. Most are too hard. I just can't seem to get the heel right. My friends tell me to stop whining and take knitting lessons. :violin: I don't. Help!!

I have to say, I am just finishing my first pair of socks. It was my knitting resolution for 2008. I tried to knit socks last year and something didn't "click"- I think it was the heel. I tried again two weeks ago and now I'm a sock knitting machine. In fact i just bought more sock yarn! I would reccommend that if you don't "get" it right away, don't worry about it. Go back to it in a couple months and you'll be a sock master!
Oh- and Silver's tutorial really is just great, so try that first.

This is the pattern that I used for my first pair of socks, actually it's the only pattern I have ever used. It says it isn't a beginners pattern, but I wouldn't take that to heart too much.

I'm going to say thanks for the links too. I wanted to make socks, but like Rosalie, the instructions were too difficult to understand.

I'll second Silver's Sock Tutorial. I knit my first pair of socks with that. Actually, they're more house socks because I did them in worsted weight yarn, but the tutorial is very clear and very easy to follow and she explains the the heel so well.
