Stockinette or stocking stitch is knit a row, purl a row in flat knitting and knit every row in circular work. Knit even means not to make any decreases or increases and to knit as you have been doing. When it says three rows of stocking stitch it would be three literal rows. In flat knitting, if you began with a knit row, it would be knit the row, purl a row, knit a row. 1,2,3.
