QOTD Do you knit socks cuff down, toe up? What is your favorite cast on? For toe up what is your favorite method of increase?

I do toe up, Magic 8 cast on, and haven't decided on the best increase - which is why I asked the question.

I'm back! Did you guys miss me?
After about a 7 month hiatus from the needles (just sort of happened), I've been knitting for three, four weeks. I picked it up again just in time for the Ravelympics.

Anyone remember those Monkeys I started that somehow managed to have an inside out cuff? I frogged them and started over. I'm on my second lace repeat and it's starting to look like a Monkey! I'll post a picture or two tomorrow (technically today) when the sun's out. Natural light is so much better than my flash which makes whatever I focus on look completely white (no pattern at all).

You know you're a sock knitter when you get excited about your first dropped stitch because you get to fix it. Or maybe that's just me.

Actually, it started out as a stitch knit onto the wrong DPN. I thought somehow the tip of the needle had just slid into a stitch because it was tired of just hanging out with nothing to do. When I pulled the tip out, the stitch dropped. It was only then that I realized what I had done. You should have seen how excited I got. This was definitely money well spent.

Mornin!!!
Chris Fitted Knits (I think) is a book that uses increases/decreases to make darts and such in knitting so that it has a nice shaply fit.

qotd I prefer toe up with a short row heel. I love the Turkish co & for some reason started my current socks with the magic 8 co-I'm still a good 5" before I get tomy heel, but when I get there I'll use the short row heel, from 'groovy socks' on KPC. I think I might try to do a picot bo this time, if you can do it top down, why not toe up? I'll let you know. As far as increases I usually use the Kf&b but that leaves a funny line, so this time I used the M1, which is knit one row even then on the second st in and the second to last st on the row (I'm doing ML-duh) you pick up the horizontal line between the previous rows sts and knit into that st. But if you pu the st with the left needle you must knit into the back loop or you'll have a hole. I was thinking on my next pair, I might do a lacey pair and if so I'll try YOs for the increases...start the lace early? We'll see.

Today I'm going to the LYS to return that 2 at a Time book, I only liked one pattern in there & b/c of the k3 I can't do it with my wrist & I like to do toe up anyway, so o well-I plan on gettin the new Interweave Knits mag in exchange & a little store credit.
