Afghan Block KAL-Month 9 Illusion Knitting starts Pg 30

Hey all -

I am following this pattern for the entrelac block:

There shouldn't be a right or wrong side here, but it seems like there is to me and it seems to reverse every time it gets to this point :

You are left with one stitch on the left hand needle. Transfer it to the right-hand needle. Pick up a further 7 stitches down the side of the previous row so you have 8 stitches in total, turn, and continue with the directions for Square.

Perhaps this is because I'm using 2 different colors rather than self striping??? Does anyone have any ideas. I'll try to post pics soon, but my camera is old and being really stupid right now

Gargoylelib: thank you! i don't like the color of the socks but that is a completely other issue. Please post pics of your project! I'm always thinking of doing the cables in another color but never got the bravery to do it!
Evona: I don't see where you may have made a mistake, maybe if you post pics we can see. I read the pattern and it is pretty much like the one i used, only difference is that i do have a wrong side. What do you mean with "reverse"? I don't think the problem is with the yarn, i used 4 colors instead of variegated. I'll try to get my camera back and post pic this afternoon.

You are right when the pattern calls for you to use the one remaining stitch as the first pick up st it is when you are using one color I had the same problem until Libbie help me. Hope that helps

HI Evona,

I've been reading the pattern and it seems to be pretty much a
typical entrelac pattern at least from the ones I have read. Did you
look at her picture tutorial that she has linked from that site? I
don't think using two colors should make any difference and with
it being garter stitch there should be no particularly apparent
right or wrong side....hmmmm of course this is all just speculation
because I just don't "get" entrelac when I read a pattern. I have
to actually knit it before it starts to make any sense hahaha...

Of the patterns I have read though, if you are using more than one
color (not a single variegated or self striping yarn) that when you
get to the point where there is only one stitch left on your needle
you just fasten it off and then pick up yoru next block of sts
with the new color otherwise the first stitch of your next color row
will be in the old color. Don't know if that helps you at all....

Good Morning! I hope everybody is doing well with their block. I had to frog mine. Didn't like at all, so better to frog now than having a block thats bothering me all the time. Have a nice weekend!

Oh that's a pain! But I agree, it's definitely better to just do it and
get it over with than live with a block you don't like. I have been
looking at my block and am not completely happy with it and really
considering redoing it. I have a book that shows entrelac with
cables and textures all done in one color that I'm really tempted to
try. the finished object looks like cables weaving in and out of
moss stitch and it looks pretty neat....well, I'm a cable freak so
anything with cables looks neat!

I haven't started my second square yet. I'm going to finish the other projects I have on the go first and get the number of UFO's down lol. I'll catch up later.

Haven't started mine yet either... got really crazy here at work so just (finally) ordered my yarn yesterday... (worked all weekend as well)... So as soon as it comes in i will start... Ordered like 4 different kinds, so I will have something for the next few squares!

Hi Paula! As you can see, I haven't even started my second block yet, and it will be a brand new pattern for me... so I will probably start and re-start several times!

No swapping required... welcome! (I do some crocheting myself -- newest obsession is thread...)
