Question about increases

Hi Everyone. I am currently working on a Baby Bunny Blanket. This is a free pattern that I found on the Lion Brand website. I have worked 39 rows with various increases. For the next two rows (rows40-41) the pattern reads: Cast on 12 sts, knit to end of row. The pattern says that the entire blanket is worked in one piece so I am just a little confused as to what method of increasing I should use?

Place the left needle in front of the right needle, together. Wrap yarn around both needles and then back around the right needle and pull the loop through towards you... snug up the yarn and do it all over again until you have the 12 sts. then continue knitting the row. Mary

That makes kind of a twisted drop stitch though, is that what's called for? In patterns that have you add sts by casting on you can use the knitted or cable cast on.
