Problem with Saartje's booties
I'm knitting Saartje's booties for the first time, and I'm totally stuck on part of the pattern. For the straps, it says to "k10, co 10 using longtail cast on and second strand of cc as the thumb strand". I have no idea how to do this. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm totally confused!!

From the picture, it looks like you just use another piece of yarn to CO the 10 stitches. You leave an 8" tail for later use. Try it and keep following the pictures and the pattern.

What I can't figure it is- am I supposed to use the working yarn and the new yarn together for the cast on? I swear, sometimes I wish people wrote patterns for two year-olds, because I confuse easily.

Thanks for your help!

I think you use new yarn. Put in a lifeline before you continue so you can always frog back if there's a problem!

Hmmm. Ok, first, thank you for your help. It's so nice to have people willing to offer some help to the bumbling knitters like me.

I am knitting the booties in one color, so I haven't switched any yarn. And I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use my working yarn from the ten stitches I just knit to do the cast on, or if I just leave that yarn there and cast on ten stitches that will be separate. I don't even know if that makes sense at this point.

It says
"Use SECOND strand of CC" so use a second strand of whatever you're using.
Leave the yarn there and use a NEW piece.

It totally makes sense now. I didn't get that the two sides were worked separately. Jeez. I make things so difficult for myself.

Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it!!
