Help - Making Booties
Hello all, I'm very new to this forum (and knitting). I am trying to make a set of booties but I'm stuck on shaping the instep.

The pattern says:
k18, turn
P9, turn
working on these 9 sts only proceed as follows
cont in st-st work 12 rows.

which is what I have done (see picture)

The next part says:
with rs facing, rejoin yarn to instep end of first 9 sts, pick up and knit 12 sts wvenly along rs of instep, knit across 9 sts, pick up and knit 12 sts evenly along left side of instep and knit across 9 sts. 5 sts

What does this mean? i am so baffled.

The flap that you knit is the top of the foot.

You'll need to slip the stitches that are on your right needle over to the left one and then, using a new strand of yarn, knit across those nine stitches.

Then you pick up stitches along side one, knit across side 2 and pick up stitches down along side 3, and knit the rest of the stitches that are on the left needle.

k2togtbl means knit two together through back of loop. How do I do that?

this is what I ended up with.

I would have posted it when I finished it, but my laptop was being naughty and didn't want to import my pics from the memory card.

I am going to do the 2nd one today and perhaps tomorrow i will attempt to make the hat to go with it.

I love knitting! Its so fulfilling.
