This morning, I got to work seaming some squares to make one blanket. It's done!!!

I did a quick whipstitch to join the squares, giving it a nice "rustic" look. Cool!

I might add a crochet border all around.
It depends on how I feel.

I'm still making more squares, so hopefully I'll have enough to make ANOTHER blanket! I just need 4 more squares!!

Thank YOU for your help! I could not have made this blanket in time on my own.

Here is a breakdown of all the squares.

gmmarton - 3 squares
Amanda (my piano student) - 1 square
feministmama - 2 squares
momwolf - 5 squares
me - 9 squares

I just need to make 4 more squares, and I'll have enough for another blanket!

I sent an email to Afghans for Afghans about our blanket, and included a photo. Here is the response I received from Ann Rubin:

Dear Sandy and friends,

Thank you so much for your handmade package and kind note! Your generous donation is very meaningful and will be deeply appreciated. You can be assured that your contribution is going to be put to excellent use by those who really need the warmth and the kindness.

We love your blog! Great fun to read and very inspiring!

We are currently once again supplying *wool* baby blankets, newborn socks, and newborn hats to CURE Hospital in Kabul. CURE takes care of the very youngest. They are responsible for delivering about 300 babies each month. (Our current due date is sometime in May, most likely. Please check back for a specific date.)

We continue to work with the San Francisco office of the American Friends Service Committee to collect and pack. Thank you for participating -- for your caring about the Afghan people and for taking action! We promise not to forget Afghanistan -- you are making that possible.

Thank you for remembering the Afghan people.

Our best, Ann

I am just so happy to have help from all of you! There is NO WAY I could have made enough squares to complete a blanket on my own. This was truly a team effort!

Today, I received a square from McKnitty. So pretty!
Nice, isn't it?

So, if you've started making a square, and didn't finish it in time, you can still send it to me. I have a feeling that the "Afghans for Afghans" project will be accepting baby blankets for a long time.
