How do I increase a stitch at beginning of a row?
I am very new to knitting and am working on a project while away from my friendly yarn shop visiting my daughter. My pattern says to increase a stitch at the beginning and end of a row. The videos for increasing on the website are great but I am not sure which one is the proper one to do at the start of a row. Should I do I stitch and then add? If anyone can help me I would so appreciate it. Thanks I am loving this new hobby.

Part of it would depend if you what the edges of your project will be. I would go with the M1R between the first two stitches and M1L between the last two stitches of the row if it is going to show. Otherwise, knitting into the front and back of the next to the last stitch on each end works just fine.

Enjoy your time with your daughter!

Knitting into the front and back of the sts is probably the easiest.

I often simply use a backward loop placed over the right hand needle. I'd do it after the first stitch and before the last stitch.
