Thank you!Very much! it's always good to get encouragement.
I didn't really use a pattern, I did a guage swatch and casted on so the hat would measure 10" as stated on the Save the Children Site.

Yarn Caron Dazzleaire (thank you Shandeh)
Color Baby rainbow ombre
Needle size us 8
Co 42 sts knit until it measured about 4.5 to 5" and did a k2 k2tog decrease with a knit row between decrease rows until I had 8 sts on needle then I did an I-cord for about 3" bind off and tie. Hope that helps.

Always good to know these questions so you can get different ideas/patterns to try
you did a great job.

Will post pic of my second hat later.

I love the hat momwolf, and don't want to put a dampener on things but we do have to be care full to not use white as in some countries these hats are going to it signifies death. I am not sure if a little is OK, Limey will know more than me.
I am sure the hat would definitely be OK for the countries where white is not an issue. The hearts are very cute.

Oh - Aaagh!!! Yes, well, hum ...... I can honestly say I have NEVER felt so embarrassed in my life, (and I've been embarrassed alot of times). Has anyone got a quiet corner I can creep into and die of shame!!!!!!!!

I'm the only one who hasn't posted photographs of hats ... and I started this thread ---- oooooh, mortified is not in it!!!!!!!

I had no idea when I asked for help that I would end up with such a bunch of up-an-at-em knitters - (literally) - all I've got so far are two little, pink and very plain hats (I'd prepared before).

My only excuse is I've been busy tying myself in knots this weekend, finishing my little grand daughter's cardigan. I started a hat cast on last night and managed one and a half inches of rib. (cringe, whimper)

Promise I will knit more later tonight and tomorrow.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH - I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ALL THOSE HATS and I'm sure the folks at Save the Children will be thrilled with the results!!!!!

How many hats have you turned out over one weekend???? I'm over the moon with your very generous response.

Just to answer the point about white on the hats - it's ok to use some white along with another colour - it's only totally white hats that might cause any concern.

All the hats you ladies have made are absolutely fine - THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH AGAIN FOR YOUR VERY KIND EFFORTS.

I'll get back to you tomorrow and hopefully, have some photos

Yours, frantically

Ellie

Thanks for clarifying the point about the colours. I don't actually have any white yarn at the moment but I have some ecru which I was not sure if would qualify as white, but if I use it as a stripe or something it should be OK.
Don't want to get to involved in making anything to fancy, will take to long to get the hats done.

Hi Karina

You're right about doing fancy hats - I've had my eye on a particular (free) pattern for a while and last night decided to give it a go (photo later, promise) - and it has taken me a little while longer to make than one of the 'plain' hats.

I'm so glad you mentioned stripes as well because you jogged my memory about a post I put on the Forum some while ago and had totally forgotten about. It's a new way of knitting stripes and is known as a jogless jog.

Here's the link

http://techknitting.blogspot.com/200...s-stripes.html

I know what you mean too about what is regarded as 'white' - I have lots of what people would think of as Aran yarn - the cream coloured wool used in Aran patterns.

I'll check that later when I contact Save the Children but if you use the ecru colour along with a different colour, it will be fine. I also think that the ecru would make a great 'base' colour for hats, depending of course on how much you have in your stash.

Thanks so much for 'jogging' my memory and thank you again for your time and effort. Your hats are just lovely and I very much appreciate your spending time knitting them.

Warmest Wishes
Ellie

I have to say that was as clear as mud to me. Don't understand it at all, will go back and have a look again later. Need a shower and another cup of tea. Kids are home from school so we are having a lazy day because my little one have an ear infection and I don't want her to go out in the cold.
