Jodi - I have to be honest, I used size 8 & 9. I needed size 9 for the gauge, and I don't like my ribbing to be too tight, so I used size 8 for that. I especially didn't want it to pull when I did the edging around the button area. In my opinion, if you are using size 10, I'd use nothing smaller than 8's for the ribbing.

Whatever "gauge" needle size, I go down 2 sizes for "ribbing".

If the pattern "suggests" an 8 for the body, and a 6 for the ribbing...that is two sizes...so I follow suit. It's always worked well for me!

Hint: sometimes it is good to re-check your gauge after knitting up for about 10 inches. Some knitters start with sleeves for that very reason. To check gauge after 10". With sleeves, it's less to frog if the gauge doesn't hold.

I've decided to go with the 8's. Thanks for the suggestion of starting with the sleeve and checking the gauge after 10". I had thought about doing that and it's nice to know someone else thinks it's a good idea.

Instructions for NECK shaping say to work pattern across 10 sts, then place these sts on a holder. Left front instructions state that this occurs on the WS. Right front instructions state that this occurs on the RS. But Right Front instructions also state that the row number of the last cable row worked should match row number of the last cable row worked for the left front. I can't understand how this is possible since Row 1 is RS for both left front and right front.
What am I missing? I'm not sure how to proceed for neck shaping on the right front.

Hi and welcome!
The important thing is to put the sts onto the holder on the same row of the cable pattern. I don't have the pattern but it looks like you'll be using these sts for the hoodie. When you knit the hoodie, you'd like the cables on either side to twist on the same row, just for ease of knitting. (If they twisted on different rows, it wouldn't be noticeable in the finished sweater, but you'd have to remember to offset the cable twist.)
You can do this by knitting the 10sts for the right front on the RS row and then moving them to a holder and continuing to knit across. On the left front, knit up to the 10sts, place those next 10 on a holder, turn and work back on the WS row. When you put the sts back on a needle for the hoodie, you'll slip the right side sts on the needle, pick up sts around the neck and then knit the sts from the left front. That should put you on the same row of the cable pattern.
