Very new to this

I cannot seem to match my knitting to the instructions on these videos. I think because I learned crochet first, I have a bad habit of wanting to wrap my yarn around my needles when I'm knitting.

I knit Continental, but once I put my needle up through to bring my yarn back, instead of pushing it through the bottom, I end up wrapping it and bringing it through on top of my needle.

Does it matter how I bring the yarn through??

It could - wrapping the other direction may make the stitches twist, which makes them tighter on the next row. Insert your right needle, bring the yarn under the tip and over the top, then pull the stitch through. That may be how you're doing it already.

I think I'm going the other way. I'll try it and pay closer attention.
