Can I omit the sleeves?

I want to knit up the Little Miss Strawberry sweater (by Jodi Snyder, in the Creative Knitting Magazine, March 2008 issue), but without the long sleeves. Any reason I can't just not do the sleeves? I was thinking I could just go around and do a crab stitch. Any other ideas?

I am not an expert, but I think you could omit the sleeves, just don't ask me how! What I want is that patt
