pattern help needed

I am making a baby blanket/hoodie. It is similar to this but not this pattern: http://tinyurl.com/5mhfcp (I would post the real link but magknits is down.)

I'm at the tip (top) of the hood. It reads: When 5 sts remain (RS): k1, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k1-3 sts rem. Bind off.

I am confused because if I knit one and slip the next one then knit the next two together then pass one over, I'd only have one stitch left, not 3.

But if I knit one then slip it back onto the left needle it looks like it will work. Is that what they want?

Any help is much appreciated.

I did what it said and I had 3 stitches remaining ... If you knit one, slip one, k2tog and psso, you cross over the k2tog and that leaves 2 stitches on the right neede and knitting one more gives you three. It means there are a total of three stitches all together. Bind those three off.
