Kitchner problems
Now I've done this grafting before (once) and it turned out like it should, I guess that was beginners luck because in finishing up the toe of a pair of socks with the kitchner stitch it looks like a row of purl stitches (with the bumps showing). Help what am I doing wrong? I viewed the video in KH and the only thing that It looked like I was doing different was keeping my yarn to the left of the stitches being worked on. Would that have made any difference?
Any suggestions?

That's weird. There is a different way to do the grafting for knit or purl. Could you possibly have used the wrong one? I just don't know what else to say. I've never had that happen.

I know you've done it before, but... make sure you are doing it correctly. I say to myself as I'm doing it "knit, purl, purl knit".
If you do the purl first I think it makes a purl bump and doing the reverse on the top needle would produce the same thing.. I think.
Here's a review.

I have to watch the video again for every sock, even though I've made many pairs and always used Kitchener except for 1 pair of toe-ups. I watch and knit at the same time.

Here's a knitting daily article on kitchner stitch using a knitting needle instead of a tapestry needle. Might help.

Kitchener stitch takes a LOT of practice- at least for me. I have to have the instructions beside me everytime I do it and I have still done it wrong several times and has to re-do it. I don't have any advice other than what everyone else said, but I wanted to offer support!

Thanks for help and encouragement. I am going to knit up two swatches and practice grafting. I'll see if I come up with the same problem or I manage to correct it......

I agree with Jan, I chant, "Knit slip purl, purl slip knit" the whole time. I also announce I am about to perform kitchener so nobody better interrupt me. It works every time.

Knit, purl, purl, knit--repeat.
If you are trying to Kitchner a rib--you would sew the purl parts with "purl, knit, knit, purl" My favorite wool soaker pattern requires Kitchener-ing in pattern--yick. good luck.

I'm impressed that most of you can chant your way through. I have to actually have the directions right in front of me and no distractions.
Good luck and I hope you figure it out.
