Streaming Radio
Last week, down in Los Angeles, I heard a new radio station for the first time. As I sat there, thinking I'd never hear it again, it occured to me that they probably stream off the web. Sure enough, 100.3 The Sound, can be found on the net here http://www.thesoundla.com/?nid=25

Right now they have David Bowie on. They play a widely divergent variety, but it's like the FM stations I remember from when I lived down there.

This type of music might not be for you, but if you have a station you like but can't recieve the normal way, you might want to check to see if they stream live over the 'net.

I love that radio stations now stream their broadcasts and listen online often. I also listen to a few internet only stations.

Love Internet Stations!
When I was feeling homesick for my New York City stations in college (I went to college in Pennsylvania), we used to listen over the Internet. And then the addiction began in earnest.

A few of my favorite terrestrial stations that stream over the Net:

WXPN, Philadelphia, PA: http://www.xpn.org
KEXP, Seattle, WA: http://www.kexp.org
KCRW, Los Angeles, CA: http://www.kcrw.com

WPS1, an internet only art radio station affiliated with P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA): http://www.wps1.org. (In the interest of full disclosure, I volunteer at the MoMA.)

If you're a baseball fan and willing to shell out the $14.95 for the season, mlb.com has a great audio package - home AND away feeds (better than XM, which my boyfriend tells me only gives him home feeds).

Well, I can't miss an opportunity to boast about my public radio station WUWF 88.1FM which streams. They have one of the most eclectic offerings of any public radio station I've ever listened to. My favorite program (aside from news) is Acoustic Interlude which is a locally produced program that plays all kinds of interesting music on Sunday afternoons. Really cool station (and the people who work there are groovy!)
