How do I convert a pattern designed for straight needles to circular needles?? I have a pattern book with all sorts of patterns that you can knit on straight needles but would like to incorporate some of the pattern into the round for hat designs. Can someone please help me?

You're talking about stitch pattern right, not item patterns? For st patterns, the WS will always be done on the RS so you'll have to reverse both the st done on the WS and the order they're done in. For instance, if it's all purl on the WS, you knit on the RS. If it's a cable pattern, the crosses will be done on the RS anyway, and the other rows are like ribbing, so you just knit the knits and purl the purls.

in some cases, you will "lose" the + stitches (pattern 8 stitch repeat, + 4)--in the round, will be 8 stitch repeat.

some pattern will even be 8 stitch repeat, -1--

Knitty's RPM sock comes to mind its a 4 stitch/4 row pattern

but if worked in the round, it's works better as a 4 stitch repeat -1 (or i suppose +3!)(worked with a minus 1 stitch, its a jogless pattern, worked with full repeats, its has a definate jog.)

there are some stitch stitch patterns that are designed for the round, --some bias, (pleasantly so!)

about 70% of stitch patterns are easily adapted to knitting in the round, some will need more or few, (or none at all) +stitches, and a small percent will be PITA to adopt.
