stripe question
I'm not sure I can describe the problem I'm having but here goes. I am trying to knit a doll for my daughter that is similar to the puppets shown here:

I can't get the blue blocks on the sweater quite right. I am knitting this from the bottom up. The green part looks like a reverse stockingette, then on a knit row (which is the inside in this case) I alternate 2 green and 2 blue stitches (on the outside, the blue part looks like a knit stitch and the green part looks like a purl). The blocks look clean. I do this for two rows. However, when I try to go back to an all green row, the top of the blocks don't look right, you can see some blue on top of the green. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions? I'm new to color work and am starting to think I'm in over my head here.

Thanks for any help,
Teresa

Okay, when you go back to the green after the little squares, the first row of the green, you will be on a knit side of the work. As you work this first row knit the two green stitches and purl the two that are over the blue stitches alternately all across the row. Then on the purl row, just purl back across over all of them and you are back to your reverse stockinette.

This will make one row of green that is knit above the blue blocks but it won't be noticed and the only alternative is the result you are now getting. This is the way a clean edge is made on the color in this kind of situation. If you were making just a normal stripe you would knit the whole row to change colors but with the alternate colors you will do it this way.
