Sock 2 parts

Hi,

Stupid question.........
I was wondering if you can knit the 2 sides of a sock seperately and sew the two sides togethor when they're done.

I need stress free knitting and I don't think I can handle having all those needles around.

To be honest I feel like that would be more of a pain in the butt than learning how to use DPNs. They're really not that bad! Trust me, if I can do it, you can. The other option would be to use magic loop or two circs. I haven't tried those methods, but a lot of people prefer them.
If you use Silver's tutorial you will be a DPN sock master in no time.

2 sides? The inside and outside? (sorry, I had to do it.)

I'm with knitgal. DPNs aren't that hard. They only look hard and impress those who are watching (my niece said, "That's way too many needles for that few hands.", then I showed her that I was double knitting 2 socks at once).

But if you really are psyched out with DPNs try Magic Loop (or 2 circs, but I always get confused and end up accidentally breaking into Magic Loop when doing that).

You know how cheap tube socks slide down your feet because they don't have well-defined heels and toes? I think you'll have the same feeling with socks that are two flat pieces sewn together. And the long seam(s) could be really annoying.

Your legs and feet are essentially two tubes at an angle to each other. Socks knitted in the round fit more naturally and can be customized to fit perfectly at the toe and heel -- they're the most comfortable things you'll ever wear.

The patterns PlantGoddess supplied still require dpns to do the toes. To my mind, you might as well do the whole sock that way. Once you get your head around the idea that you are only knitting with two dpns at a time, not a handful, most of the sock knitting is pretty mindless (except for heels and toes, which are the fun parts). Or try two circs, which some people prefer.

I found dpns impossible to use: I was always dropping the stitches off one or getting them confused after laying my knitting down. ML is super easy!! Give it a try. I'm betting you'll love it in no time.

I am working on a pair of socks on two circular needles and it is easier for me. Double points for some of my friends works for them.
