Semi FO: Felted Tote - Updated pictures on page 2!
Hey all! I wanted to try out felting, so I decided to make a little tote for my two-year old niece. I'm calling this semi-finished because I still want to find a pattern for some little flowers to attach somewhere to girly it up even more. I'm also a little worried about the handle getting stretch out but I haven't figured out what to do about it. Any suggestions?

Pattern: Mini skull tote - http://www.helloyarn.com/miniskulltote.htm

I followed this pattern, but instead of making the skull, I did stripes on the body of the tote. I did three rows of each color, but if I ever do this pattern again I will probably do thicker stripes. The colors of the yarn sort melded together during felting because the stripes were so thin. I think I also inadvertently made my tote a little taller than the pattern called for.

When I felted, I just threw the purse in a mesh bag and ran it through a hot wash cycle (I let it spin in the washer and everything). I basically wanted the bag as small as possible since my niece is pretty tiny (almost 2). I turned out fine though.

Yarn: Cascade 220 100% wool - I used the Heathers for the pink, purple and green, and then plain color brown and ivory. I have a LOT of cascade 220 wool left now.

Needles: Size 10 straight needles. This particular pattern calls for knitting the tote flat and then sewing up the side. This was good for me since I didn't have any size 10 circulars, but I'd probably get some if I do it again. I do think that stripes are a good medium to practice mattress stitch on.

Here's a picture of the tote before felting, measuring about 11 x 11 (if you don't count the bottom of the bag):

And here's the finished product! It measures about 8" square (ish), but it looks much more petite than that in person for some reason.
