Looking for a few good patterns!

Boredom is about to set in and I need some new patterns and can't find what I'm looking for. I want some VERY simple "learn to cable" like fingerless gloves/arm warmers that I can use acrylic yarn on. Hopefully about a size five DPN because thats all I have. lol

Also, there is a certain kind if bag that I have been wanting to make. The girls wear them all over campus but I can't find one in the stores and I want to knit one. It reminds me a bit of a hobo but has a VERY long strap that can be worn across the chest or shortened (usually with a knot) to a one shoulder bag. They are quite deep. I have seen a few patterns (one on lionsbrand) but they are usually crochet. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I have searched and searched and have exhausted my known free pattern sites. Maybe I'm usuing the wrong search terms. lol who knows.

Finally, I would love the simplest, plainest, learn to make socks pattern you can dredge up. no strips, nothing, just a plain old sock. lol

For cabled fingerless mits - just google 'knit pattern cable fingerless gloves' or mittens - you'll get a bunch of hits and you can search thru the patterns to see if they call for the correct size needles youwant to use. If the bottom was a little more squared it would be more like what they look like. I should just tap one of these girls on the shoulder and beg them to know where they get their bags. um am i being thick but your hoob bag is knitted not crochet. if in doubt i have a bought pattern i can send you to borrow if you like. its very like the bag on lionbrand the pattern i have. you are very welcome to borrow it

I agree with Mirl on the socks, the Come To Silvers were my first and I did them in Paton's Merino (before I knew about Superwash) and my first pair went super quick.

However.........I find a simple lacey socks which go fast because they are lace, I made these - (my favorite pair and my 2nd pair ever) during a lazy weekend and it's an easy to remember 4-row repeat. It's Magknits' Rainy Day Socks
