stupid newbie question
Forgive me in advance for this silly newbie question... but when you make a slipknot to start crocheting a chain, does the loop on the hook count as the first chain? For instance, if the instructions read "chain 10," I make the slip knot on the hook and then chain 9 more?

Thanks in advance!

I know nothing about crochet but I want to say that if you are a newbie there is NO stupid question.

No, it does not count as the first chain.
